Dress and Grooming (All Grade Levels)
The district’s dress code teaches grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, and minimizes safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:
Footwear MUST be worn. Shoes or sandals that are not safe when walking or running are prohibited.
Hair must be clean and neatly groomed. Only natural hair colors are acceptable. Hairstyles that are distracting or disruptive to the learning environment are prohibited (i.e. shaved patterns, faux hawks, mohawks, spikes). Facial hair should be clean and well-kept.
Inappropriate visible tattoos are prohibited.
Shirts must be buttoned or pinned to within 3 inches of the collarbone. No shirts or tops that show bare back or midriff are permitted. Girls’ shoulder straps must be at least 3 inches wide. Sleeveless shirts must be tailored (sewn). All boys’ shirts must have sleeves. No pictures, emblems, or writings that are lewd, offensive, vulgar, obscene; promote violence, advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or sex.
Shorts, skirts, and skorts MUST be hemmed and should not be shorter than 3 inches above the knee.
If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code,
the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school and return to the
classroom. If the problem cannot be corrected at school, the principal will work with the student
and parents to obtain an acceptable change of clothing for the student in a way that minimizes
loss of instructional time. Repeated or severe offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action in accordance with
the Student Code of Conduct.
