Chromebooks are generally updated remotely by Chrome OS, this Department, or by the user actually noticing the prompt to restart their device for updates. Closing the lid does not allow the device to install updates, it only puts your Chromebook into ‘Rest Mode’ and the user into ‘Sleep Mode;’ these modes leads the user to retype their password in order to get back into their account.
Your Chromebook generally runs efficiently when it is up-to-date, if you see an update notification come up from the ‘Dashboard’ do not ignore it! The device can still be used as it updates and will only prompt you to select ‘Restart.’ As the Chromebook is connected to Chrome OS, and does periodic automatic updates, you can restart and not lose information and tabs opened. If you choose to ignore the update notice your Chromebook will seem sluggish and certain apps may not work or even disappear. You don’t need to check for updates daily! But, if your are experiencing issues on your device then Do Not Hesitate; feel free to check for an update and force an update through if necessary.
