TITLE 19. EDUCATION PART 2. TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY CHAPTER 74. CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS SUBCHAPTER DD. COMMISSIONER'S RULES CONCERNING MATHEMATICS INSTRUCTION 19 TAC §74.2101
Advanced and AP courses are designed to challenge students beyond grade-level academic courses and prepare them for success in future advanced coursework. Center Point ISD recognizes the value of student participation in advanced academic coursework and encourages students to graduate from high school with at least one advanced academic course credit. Participation in advanced academic courses is a foundation of college readiness, as students, who participate in Advanced, Pre-AP and AP courses, are more likely to complete a bachelor’s degree in college and typically have higher college GPAs.
Pre-AP courses are meant to challenge students into a deeper understanding of the course content and prepare them for future AP courses. AP Courses give students the chance to tackle college-level work while they are still in high school and potentially earn college credit. Students may require additional encouragement and support from both family and campus to be successful in advanced academics.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) is the practice of teaching specific career skills to students in middle school, high school, and post-secondary institutions. Students in Center Point’s CTE programs spend much of their time learning through a hands-on approach which will prepare students for further studies as they advanace through the program and an ultimate occupation in the future. Students interested in a particular field can look at the coherent sequence of courses to see the courses that will help them prepare for their chosen careers. Students may also wish to choose an academy or magnet school designed to prepare students for careers.
