Board of Trustees

The Center Point Board of Trustees is a veteran board with over 120 years of collective service to our district consisting of seven members elected by the community to serve overlapping four-year terms. Elections are held in November every even-numbered year.

Candidates do not represent specific geographical areas. Rather, each represents the Center Point ISD as a whole. Following the bi-annual election, the Board elects officers (president, vice-president and secretary) to serve a two-year term. Their goal is to represent the children of Center Point and ensure the availability of excellence in education from a dedicated, caring staff in a safe, positive, and creative atmosphere.

Our seven trustees and the superintendent form a strong team that leads the district towards academic excellence and success for all students.

Duties of the Board:

Operating within the legal parameters of the state and federal constitutions, statutes, courts, and administrative agencies, the Board is charged with the responsibility of providing the finest educational program possible for the students in the district. School trustees make all final decisions regarding school district priorities, policies, personnel, textbooks, expenditures, and growth management. Trustees adopt a budget which is necessary to maintain and operate the schools, levy taxes to support the budget, and submit bond issues to the citizens of the district to finance construction projects.

The Superintendent:

The Superintendent of Schools is appointed by the School Board as the chief administrator and executive officer. With the assistance of his staff, the Superintendent directs, guides and coordinates the total educational and administrative program in accordance with Board policies and the rules and regulations of the Texas Education Agency. He attends all Board meetings and brings recommendations to the Board for action in carrying out the business of the school district.

 

Opportunities for Community Input

The Board of Trustees meets once each month:

  • an “Open Forum” period is provided at each regular school board meeting.
  • Meetings are open to the public, except when the board meets in closed sessions to consider matters specified by law.. 
  • Citizens are invited and encouraged to attend the board meetings, comments are limited to three minutes per person, and are usually held at or near the beginning of each board meeting.

 

 

Regular Meeting Notice:

The Board meets in regular session once a month throughout the year.

The meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Conference Room located on the 1st floor of the Administration Building, 215 China Street, Center Point, Texas.

Regular meeting notices are routinely posted at the CPISD Administrative Offices outside the office of the superintendent at least 72 hours prior to the meeting.

Resolution of Issues

Parents and community members wishing to contact the school board regarding a specific school, teacher or child, are encouraged to begin at the level closest to the concern.
The Board encourages students and parents to discuss their concerns and complaints through informal conferences with the appropriate teacher, principal, or other campus administrator.
Concerns should be expressed as soon as possible to allow early resolution at the lowest possible administrative level.

  • Step One: Contact the teacher, coach, guidance counselor, etc. 

  • Step Two: Contact the principal (If you have a school-wide concern, this becomes step one)

  • Step Four: Contact the Superintendent of Schools - 830-353-8133

If an informal conference regarding a complaint fails to reach the outcome requested by the student or parent, the student or parent may initiate the formal process described in policies FNG Local and FNG Legal, and file a written complaint form. 

Even after initiating the formal complaint process, students and parents are encouraged to seek informal resolution of their concerns. A student or parent whose concerns are resolved may withdraw a formal complaint at any time. 

Neither the Board nor any District employee shall unlawfully retaliate against any student or parent for bringing a concern or complaint.
