Gifted and Talented Program: Challenging Bright Minds to Shine

Center Point ISD is committed to an educational program that recognizes the special needs and talents of the individual student. Please note that CPISD provides appropriate educational services for identified gifted and talented students as part of its overall K-12 program.

What Does “Gifted & Talented” Mean?

At Center Point ISD, our Gifted and Talented (GT) program is designed for students who show exceptional intellectual and creative abilities and often perform 2–3 years above grade level academically.

Our GT program provides:

  • Challenging and enriched instruction beyond the standard curriculum

  • Social and emotional support to help students thrive

  • Opportunities for creativity, problem-solving, leadership, and exploration

  • Special projects, enrichment activities, and an annual field trip to extend learning beyond the classroom

Only about 5% of students typically qualify for GT services. While many students may be bright or high-achieving, gifted students often learn and think in unique ways that require additional support and challenge.

  Is My Child Gifted?

Not all high-achieving students are gifted. While smart students may work hard, earn good grades, and excel on tests like STAAR, gifted students often:

  • Perform well above grade level

  • Demonstrate advanced problem-solving and reasoning skills

  • Need specialized instruction to stay engaged and grow

The GT program is designed to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of students who are working well beyond grade-level expectations.

If you’re wondering if GT services might be right for your child:

  1. Talk with your child’s homeroom teacher (elementary) or school counselor (secondary).

  2. Ask about your child’s performance, classroom behaviors, and if they would benefit from additional challenges.

  3. Remember that while early reading, straight A’s, or high STAAR scores are promising, these alone don’t guarantee placement.

Students placed in the GT program will:

  • Receive specialized instruction and enrichment to support academic growth

  • Participate in projects and activities designed to challenge higher-level thinking

  • Take part in an enriching field trip each year designed to extend their learning beyond the classroom

  • Teach them coping strategies for frustration and perfectionism

  • Offer opportunities for problem-solving, teamwork, and real-world learning
